I just like pointing that out as people talk like zero notable/successful fighting games happened in Street Fighter's absence. SF returning was a boon for fighting games in general, for sure but big successful fighting games absolutely happened in Street Fighter's absence, they were just all 3D. I think that's a coincidence really but it's kind of weird. Funny thing is that in the years since Street Fighter's return 3D fighters have been on a major decline with the sole exception of Tekken (though Tekken did have one of its worst selling entries with Tag 2 since SF returned). ![]() Even whatever people think of the 3D MK games Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon all actually sold really well (essentially resulting in that team only being thrown a life preserver). Since Third Strike: Tekken Tag 1, Soul Calibur, SoulCalibur 2, SoulCalibur 4, DOA 2-4, Tekken 5, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 4 all popped of and sold really well. It rejuvenated 2D fighters, but I feel like 3D fighters were actually in a much better spot when SF and big 2D fighters were on hiatus.
